Lesson overview
Students investigate an unclear invitation to a school event and discover how asking questions, checking context and confirming meaning can prevent misunderstandings. They compare messages, take one of three differentiated investigation routes, evaluate a real AI response, reflect on their communication, and create a Visitor Help Card.

You'll compare notices and messages, then split into three investigation groups - the Context Detectives (checking an invitation against event source cards), the AI Checkers (critically verifying an AI-generated rewrite), and the Communication Designers (simplifying language, building a wordless visual message, and spotting cultural misunderstandings) - before reconvening to reflect on your own voice as a communicator.

The lesson ends with a Visitor Help Card you create and share, a collective Clear Communication Wonder Map, and a closing Wonder Quiz with a personalised completion card.
Frequently asked questions
Why is "Meet us there" an unclear instruction?
"There" doesn't name a specific place, so the reader has to guess rather than knowing for certain. Asking "Where exactly?" replaces the guess with a checked answer.
How do you politely ask for clarification in English?
Use a direct, polite question such as "Where exactly should we meet?", "Do you mean morning or afternoon?" or "Could you say that again, please?" to replace an assumption with confirmed information.
Can you trust an AI chatbot's answer to a question?
AI can help explain or rewrite a message, but a fluent-sounding answer can still invent or leave out a detail. Always check it against the original source before trusting it.
What makes a written message clear?
A clear message names the place, states a full time, and says exactly what to bring, and it invites a question if anything is still unclear.
