Task 2 - Messages Around Us
A message may look simple, but its reader may need more information. Look at these notices - what can you understand immediately, and what would you need to ask?
Step 1 - Tap each notice to reveal what it tells a reader. Identify 3 to become a Context Detective.

B Meet at the sports hall.
C Come later.
D Use that entrance.
"A useful question begins where our information ends."
What happens in Task 2
A 4-minute Phase 2 - Encounter activity. Twelve short notices are shown with hidden categories - tapping reveals what detail each one supplies or leaves missing. Identifying 3 earns a Context Detective badge, followed by an optional observation note and a formative check question.
🎯 Learning objectives
Notice the difference between a detail that helps a reader and a detail that leaves them guessing. Recognise that a welcoming message exists in other languages too, and that "here"/"there" still needs a named place.
♿ SEN Adaptations
- Simplified six-card view available: cards 1-6, larger text
- Category labels can be set always-visible from accessibility settings
- Voice input accepted for the observation notepad
🖨️ No-Tech Format
- Print the twelve notice cards; the simplified version uses cards 1-6
- Teacher reads each notice aloud; students circle a helpful detail and underline a detail needing a question
- Record one observation and answer the same formative item on paper
