Task 3 - What Makes a Message Clear?
Repeating the same words may not give the missing meaning. AI may suggest useful wording, but a source is still needed for facts. A person can ask a question before guessing an answer.
Step 1 - Message 1: which version helps the reader most?
Literal
Meet us there.
AI response
The word "there" does not name a specific place, so the meeting location is missing. Ask for the exact place before going.
Human question
Where exactly should we meet?
Context-aware
The meeting place is not stated. Ask the organiser.
This version helps because…
Step 3 - Quick check
A Why is English difficult?
B What should I bring, please?
C Can I guess?
D What is your favourite colour?
"Now let us investigate the message from three different angles."
What happens in Task 3
A 4-minute Phase 2 - Encounter activity. Students compare 4 versions (literal, AI, human question, context-aware) of two unclear messages, choose the most helpful one each time and briefly explain why, then answer a formative check question.
🎯 Learning objectives
Discover that repeating the same words rarely fixes an unclear message - a useful question identifies exactly what information is missing, and an AI suggestion still needs a check against a source.
