Task 4 - Group A: Context Detective
Investigation question: which details can a reader know, and which must be checked? Group B will test an AI response next - Group C tackles making the message understandable.

Fictional event facts ยท checked and confirmed by the organiser
Source A - Place
Meet at the school garden gate, beside the garden. Do not wait at the main school entrance or in the library.
Source B - Time
Meet at half past two in the afternoon: 14:30 or 2:30 p.m. The activity finishes at 15:00.
Source C - Item
Bring a reusable water bottle. If you do not have one, ask the teacher for a cup. You do not need to buy anything.
The invitation says "Meet us there at half past two. Bring one with you." Each of "there", "half past two" and "one" can now be checked against a named source instead of guessed.
Key questions to explore - tap to open each one
1
Which detail is hardest to guess without checking?
โ
โผ
All three - "there", "half past two" and "one" - are ambiguous on their own. Checking each one against a named source replaces a guess with a confirmed fact.
2
Which source confirms the meeting is in the afternoon, and how do you know?
โ
โผ
Source B explicitly states "in the afternoon" and gives the full time 14:30. This removes the morning/afternoon ambiguity that "half past two" carries on its own.
3
What should a visitor do if they don't have the item mentioned?
โ
โผ
Source C says to ask the teacher for a cup - no purchase is needed. A checked source can answer a question a guess never could.

What happens in Task 4
A 5-minute Phase 3 - Investigation activity as "Group A - The Context Detectives." Students open three research prompts about the event source cards, then match three unclear words to their checked details, posting them to a shared Discovery Wall.
๐ฏ Learning objectives
Identify which details a reader can know and which must be checked. Treat a source as evidence: a detail is confirmed because it matches a named source, not because it sounds confident.
โฟ SEN Adaptations
- Full verbal description of each source card available on read-aloud
- Voice input accepted for all three deliverable fields
- Peer support: pairs work together within the group
๐จ๏ธ No-Tech Format
- Print the invitation, exact source cards A/B/C and a five-column worksheet
- Group A writes or dictates its three findings and posts them on a paper Discovery Wall
- During shared reporting, the other groups hear the findings
