📸 Phase 2 - Encounter 🔀 Compare ⏱ 4 minutes

Task 3 - Which Direction Helps?

"Turn right" tells us a movement, but where should we turn? A helpful guide names the starting point, gives the steps in order and uses landmarks.

Step 1 - Phrase 1: which version helps a first-time visitor?
Bare instruction
"Turn right."
Literal
Turn right.
AI response
To follow "turn right," a visitor also needs to know where to turn - for example, "at the junction, turn right."
Human question
Where should I turn, please?
Context-aware
At the junction, turn right.
This version helps because…
Step 3 - Quick check
A What colour is your bag?
B Do you like this school?
C Where should I turn, please?
D Can I ignore the signs?
"Now we can test the words against a real source: our fictional school plan."

What happens in Task 3

A 4-minute Phase 2 - Encounter activity. Students compare 4 versions (literal, AI, human question, context-aware) of two direction phrases, choose the most helpful one each time and briefly explain why, then answer a formative check question.

🎯 Learning objectives

Discover that a bare instruction is rarely enough - a helpful guide names the starting point, gives steps in order, and uses a landmark so the visitor knows they're on the right route.
