✍️ Phase 4 - Discovery ✍️ Reflection ⏱ 3 minutes

Task 8 - My Art Statement

Transform everything you've learned - history, analysis, creation - into a unique personal statement about the meaning of art.

You investigated art history. You analysed works like a critic. Perhaps you created your own artistic response. You recognised art in your everyday life.

Now, take a moment. Just you. Silence.

What is your truth about art? Not the truth museums say. Not the truth teachers teach. Your truth.
No right answers · only your answer · max 250 characters
"For me, art is…"
🔒 Your statement is yours. No one sees it without your permission - it saves to your private portfolio either way.
Your statement has been saved. It may look different a year from now. That doesn't mean it was wrong - it means you are growing.
Optional · not mandatory, only inspiring
Next Step - pick one that speaks to you
🏛️ Visit a gallery, museum or art space in your city. Take your statement - re-read it there.
🎨 Find a contemporary artist who works with the theme of your statement. Follow them.
💬 Share your statement with someone outside class. What do they say?
✨ Create something inspired by your statement - the format doesn't matter.
Bridge to Phase 5 - Propagation
"Your statement is private, but powerful. Now, it's time to share what you've discovered - your groups present, your voice is heard."

What happens in Task 8

A 3-minute Phase 4 - Discovery reflection. A single statement field, "For me, art is…", capped at 250 characters to force synthesis and authenticity. Sharing with the class is entirely optional. After saving, an optional "Next Step" suggestion box appears.

🎯 Learning objectives

Integrate cognitive learning (research, analysis) with personal emotional response. Articulate a personal vision about art, identity and creation. Recognise that understanding of art is evolving and personal.

♿ SEN Adaptations
  • Voice input: record your statement, converted automatically to text
  • Visual alternative: choose a themed image instead of writing
  • Simplified input: 3 words instead of a full sentence
  • No time limit - submit whenever you're ready
🖨️ No-Tech Format
  • Individual card (A6/A5) printed with "For me, art is…" and blank space
  • 3 minutes of silence and individual writing, then cards placed in a box for privacy
  • Optional class wall - volunteers may read aloud or pin their card
