Task 9 - And the Winner Is…

Personal meaning-making: the "best" product depends on what matters most.

Step 1 - Your prediction vs your test winner
Your Task 1 prediction

Step 2 - Why might two labs get different winners?
Three example labs tested the same products and got different winners. Pick all the reasons that could explain this (several are correct):
📏 Measurement differences ⚠️ Experimental error 🏷️ Different reading of sustainability evidence 🧮 A calculation mistake 🧻 Natural variation between sheets
Step 3 - Reveal the real brands and prices
Step 4 - What if sustainability mattered twice as much?
Predict first: if sustainability weighed 50% instead of 25%, which product do you think wins?
Step 5 - 30 seconds of silence
Is there really one "best" product?

Is there really one "best" product?
Evidence can be objective, while a final consumer decision can still depend on which criteria matter most. Now let's publish your recommendation.

What happens in Task 9

A 5-minute Phase 4 - Discovery activity. Students compare their Task 1 prediction with their actual test winner, consider why different labs can reach different winners, reveal fictional brands and prices, test whether doubling the sustainability weighting changes the winner, then reflect in silence on whether there is really one "best" product.

🎯 Learning objectives

To recognise that sustainability is one criterion within a more complex consumer decision, and to explain why price alone does not determine value.
