Silent observation - what to notice

On any digital profile or page, five things carry meaning before a single word is read: colours (the mood they set), images/icons (what they represent), fonts (formal, playful, bold), layout (what gets your attention first), and symbols (shortcuts to bigger ideas). No talking - only looking, first.

Guided noticing - personal expression vs structured systems

What do you notice first? Which element stands out most? What feeling do the colours or images create? A personal website is built entirely by its owner - a social platform gives you a structured template and asks you to make it yours anyway. Both are identity, expressed through different levels of control.

D — Describe what you see. E — Explain how the page is organised. A — Analyse what this says about the person. R — Respond with your interpretation. This four-step method turns "scrolling" into "reading" - the same skill you'll use to build your own Digital Identity Board.

What happens in Task 2
An 8-minute Phase 2 - Encounter activity. Three knowledge slides (silent observation, guided noticing, the DEAR-ICT method) open one at a time, followed by two short analysis questions and a pair-share sentence completion.
