๐ŸŽจ Phase 2 - Encounter ๐Ÿ”€ Matching โฑ 7 minutes

Activity 2 - How Art Speaks Without Words

Every artist uses the same five tools. Once you can name them, you can read any picture - a painting, a photograph, an advert, a film poster.

Step 1 - Five elements, one at a time
Step 2 - Match each detail to the feeling it creates
Tap a detail on the left, then tap the feeling on the right you think it creates. Wrong pairs are not a problem - try again as many times as you like.

Step 3 - Quick check (not graded)
C1 ยท Single choice
Look at this detail. Which element is doing most of the work here?
๐Ÿ”บ
Step 4 - Quick check (not graded)
C2 ยท One short sentence ยท max 120 characters
In one short sentence: what does that element make you feel, and why?
"Now you have the words. Time to use them - slowly, on one painting, for real."

What happens in Activity 2

A 7-minute Phase 2 - Encounter activity. Five element screens (colour, line, shape, texture, composition), each tied to a real artwork detail with a "look closer" zoom hotspot. Then a tap-to-pair matching task (not drag-only, so it works with a keyboard or switch), and two formative check questions that are never graded.

๐ŸŽฏ Learning objectives

Name the five visual elements and recognise each in a real artwork. Say what feeling an element can create and why. Understand that this is a language - invented, learned, readable.

โ™ฟ SEN Adaptations
  • Every element screen has a "describe the colours to me" audio option
  • Zoom also available via keyboard +/- for non-touch students
  • Matching has unlimited retries and no time pressure or score shown
  • Voice input on the C2 field
๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ No-Tech Format
  • Print-pack card 2 has the five artwork details in greyscale plus a colour reference strip
  • Matching becomes a line-drawing exercise on paper
  • Teacher projects each element screen with the same narration read aloud
