🗝️ Phase 3 - Investigation 🗝️ Research ⏱ 10 minutes

Task 4 - Group A: The Sovereignty Squad

Research theme: Identity as Liberation and Erasure of the Legal Self. Investigate how people use ICT to decouple their digital presence from their physical, legal identity.

🗝️
Your role: The Sovereignty Squad
Focus: mapping the "how-to" of digital transformation. Group B will critique your findings next - Group C will build with them.
Key questions to explore - tap to open each one
1
Decentralized Identifiers & cryptographic keys
What are Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and cryptographic keys, and how do they let a person prove reputation without revealing biological or legal markers? Think of it like a locked box only you hold the key to - others can verify you're trustworthy without ever seeing what's inside.
2
Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology
How does Zero-Knowledge Proof technology help someone verify a statement about themselves - "I am over 16," "I live in this country" - while keeping their underlying data fully opaque? It proves the claim is true without ever revealing the private details behind it.
3
A real historical example of digital rebirth
Find one real-world historical example of a group or individual using a completely pseudonymous network presence to achieve political, social, or creative rebirth - an anonymous author, an early internet forum movement, a whistle-blower collective. Note what let them stay safe.
Your deliverable
Group A deliverable
Write your "Sovereignty Protocol" - 3 distinct ways to launch a completely untraceable digital persona from scratch.

Bridge to Group B
"Your re-invention tools are powerful - but do they actually hold up? Group B is about to try to break every one of them."

What happens in Task 4

A 10-minute Phase 3 - Investigation activity as "Group A - The Sovereignty Squad." Students open three research prompts (DIDs & cryptographic keys, Zero-Knowledge Proofs, a real historical example), then write a 3-item "Sovereignty Protocol" - concrete steps for launching an untraceable digital persona.

🎯 Learning objectives

Students investigate how individuals in restrictive, over-surveilled, or personally compromising environments use ICT infrastructure to decouple their digital presence from their physical or legal identities.

♿ SEN Adaptations
  • Voice input accepted for all three protocol fields
  • Research prompts can be read aloud by the teacher instead of read independently
🖨️ No-Tech Format
  • Printed research cards for each of the three questions
  • Sovereignty Protocol written on a group poster instead of typed
